Mary Lehr (Furtado)

Born and raised in South Jersey, I earned my BA in Communication Studies (with a minor in Anthropology) from Stockton University. As an undergraduate student, I became an orientation leader and found a love for academic advising and student support. I went on to earn my MSEd in College Counseling and Student Affairs from Monmouth University. Some of my prior higher ed experience includes serving as a first year advisor at Monmouth, as the coordinator/counselor for the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at Kean University, and as an academic advisor at Rutgers Business School in Newark, NJ.

Since joining TCNJ in fall 2014, I have served as the Coordinator for Undergraduate Advising within the School of Business and as Assistant Dean for the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. In addition to my role as Associate Director for the Center for Student Success, I serve as a co-chair for the TCNJ Parent Network (for faculty and staff). Also, I have been a proud member of NACADA (The Global Community for Academic Advising) since graduate school, attending and presenting at regional conferences and participating as both a mentor and mentee in NACADA’s professional mentoring program.

I love keeping in touch with my students and seeing how they carve out their own paths during college and after graduation. Aside from advising, I have a love for peer mentoring. The TCNJ student body is incredibly encouraging of one another, and it’s a privilege to be able to support our peer mentorship programs, especially with our newest students who are learning how to navigate college for the first time.
